Counselling and Psychology Services
It’s always best to get a referral from your GP to see a Psychologist or Counsellor so they are clued up on your care.
If you would like to receive a rebate on your psychology sessions you will need to explore one of the below options:
Arrange for your GP, Psychiatrist to prepare a Mental Healthcare Plan. A MHCP or mental healthcare plan is a type of referral written by a doctor that entitles Medicare rebates on psychology sessions, which currently stands at $96.65 per session. A MHCP allows patients’ to access 10 psychological therapy sessions subsidised by Medicare.
Alternatively, check with your Private Health provider as to whether you have psychology as part of your extras entitlement. Once you have paid for the session, you will shortly receive an email with the receipt so you can claim back a rebate from your private health insurer.
Unfortunately, counselling does not attract a Medicare rebate at this time. However, NDIS folks are generally covered if this is part of your plan.
